Herod was afraid!

Jesus' Strange Family Tree

In the continuation of our sermon series, this week we look at the genealogy of Jesus as written by Matthew in Matthew 1:1-17.  Most people skip genealogies.  Who is really interested in someone else's ancestors?  Well, Matthew is, because Matthew knows what it reveals about the identity of Jesus.  It's surprising!

The Mission of Jesus

This sermon takes its text from Luke 4:16-28 which is about Jesus' reading from Isaiah at the Nazareth synagogue.  In that text Jesus lays out his intention to preach good news to the poor, the outcast, and the broken.  It did not meet with approval in the synagogue.  The sermon is about his mission.

The Crisis

Romans 7:21-25 is the text for this sermon which goes into the dilemma in which mankind finds itself.  The purpose of Jesus' life was to permanently deal with sin and death.

This sermon is the first in a one-year series on Jesus, to conclude after Easter 2025.  This sermon explores the fact that Jesus was God who took the form of a human and lived among us.  This is the first and important fact needed to understand Jesus.
