Infection

The book of Colossians was written to a church that had been infected by false teaching.  Paul told this church that he prayed constantly for them to the effect that they would grow in maturity and wisdom with respect to God's will for them.  This sermon examines the dangers of false teaching and the way to be protected against it.

Table Talk for May 14, 2015

Ericka Chilcoat gives the Table Talk in this edition.  She talks about how God sometimes says "No" in order to reassure us that God will not abandon His promises to us nor leave us in our weakness.

Superior

This sermon comes from Romans 1:8-15 in which Paul talks about the privilege he felt being able to carry the gospel to both Jews and Gentiles.  The sermon examines the discrimination that arose in the Roman church as a result of an exile imposed on Roman Jews between 41 and 52 AD.  In light of the discrimination that existed between Jews and Gentiles the book of Romans was written by Paul to provide instruction on how the Roman Christians should treat each other.

Assembly

In this series of sermons about the first century churches, today's sermon looks at Corinth and their issues surrounding worship.  Particularly pertaining to the Lord's Supper. The sermon examines how division and prejudice prevents the church from enjoying the relationship which God intended for her. 

Shocked

This week's sermon is a discussion of Paul's outrage over the fact that the Galatian church had allowed false teachers to enter the church and pollute the gospel.  The sermon explores the fact this this distortion of truth occured less than one generation away from the start of the church.  How much more can false teachings haunt us, now 2000 years past the start of the church.  Galatians 1:6-10 is the text.
 

Koinonia

Acts 2:41-47 tells the story of what happened to the first disciples after the day of Pentecost.  The Greek word Koinonia is the word Luke uses to describe the community and experience that was formed out of the Resurrection of Jesus and the coming of the Holy Spirit.  The sermon describes what it means to be a community defined by this fellowship word.

Disarming the Powers

This sermon is about the substance of our Easter hope.  It's central idea is the Jesus did far more than just forgiving our sins.  In fact, he destroyed the power of evil in the world and gave us freedom to live as God originally created us. 

Passover

This sermon comes from Matthew 26:17-30 which is the account of the Passover meal that Jesus ate with his disciples prior to his death.  That Jesus chose Passover rather than the Day of Atonement, for example, is an indication of how Jesus envisioned his mission and the meaning of his death.  The sermon explores this idea.

The Cruciform Church

This sermon is the first in a 3-lesson series on the influence of the Cross on the life and thouht of disciples of Jesus.  The sermon look as the self-centeredness of the current age and how the cross elminates such thinking.
