Matthew 10 is called by some "the limited commission" - because Jesus sent his disciples out to a limited audience, the Jews.  In this commission, Jesus also limits the self-control that the disciples might otherwise have exercised on such a venture.  The sermon looks at 5 principles from this commission that generalize to our own context.

Make Them Stop

This sermon is preached in light of Pentecost Sunday, June 4, 2017.  The sermon takes its text from Numbers 11:24-30.  In this text, God pours out the Spirit on 70 tribal leaders of Israel, gathered in the Tent of Meeting.  The sermon looks at what happened to them versus the disciples on whom the Spirit fell in Acts 2.

In this Table Talk Amanda reminded us of the importance of loving people in the manner of Jesus - without precaution or judgment.  This talk is a good reminder of the kind of love reflected in the Cross.

Ephesians 5:21-6:9 serves as the foundation for this sermon.  In the text, Paul teaches the Ephesian Christians how one should live in a household.  What he describes is a life of loving self-sacrifice.  In 5:32, Paul discusses his real motive in the teaching when he says, "This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the church are one."  This passage gives one of the best descriptions of how much Christ loves the church and what he was willing to sacrifice for the church.
