Mark 16:1-8a is the setting for this week's sermon. It is Mark's record to the resurrection of Jesus, and it is far shorter and more cryptic than the other Gospel accounts. A Year Without Satan
Sunday Jan 07, 2018
Sunday Jan 07, 2018
This sermon focuses on the work that Jesus did to destroy the work of Satan. A central text to this sermon is Hebrews 2:14 which says, "Only by becoming a human being could Jesus die, only only by dying could he break the power of the devil." And to the Corinthians that "If the rulers of the world knew what God was up to, they never would have killed Jesus, who by dying would cause their defeat."
The sermon challenges listeners to take responsibility for the wrongs they commit and to turn their energies to resisting Satan's attempts and turning to God.

Acts 2:41-47 tells the story of what happened to the first disciples after the day of Pentecost. The Greek word Koinonia is the word Luke uses to describe the community and experience that was formed out of the Resurrection of Jesus and the coming of the Holy Spirit. The sermon describes what it means to be a community defined by this fellowship word.
The text for this sermon is included in this recording, read by Melvin Mahaffey, one of LifeSprings young men.

This sermon comes from 1 Corinthians 15 and Paul's central discussion of the importance of Jesus' resurrection. Paul virtually calls the Resurrection the keystone of the church. Without the resurrection, disciples of Jesus are pitiable. The sermon focuses on Cornelius, Roman convert who Paul connects to the resurrection.

Cleopas and a friend were walking the lonely road from Jerusalem, the Cross, and defeat to their home in Emmaus, 7 miles away. On the way they were joined by a stranger who engaged them in conversation about the event that had just transpired. What they didn't know was that it was Jesus. This sermon explores that conversation. Luke 24:13-34 is the text.

Wednesday Apr 30, 2014
This sermon takes its text from Matthew 28:16-20 in which Matthew tells his reader that even though the disciples worshiped Jesus after his resurrection, some of them still had lingering doubts. This sermon looks at the role that doubt plays in faith.
